Mental illness arises for many reasons. Our hospice rehabilitates prisoners with mental health problems and helps them integrate back into society.
One resident in our hospice comes from a wealthy family and was educated in the UK. He is mentally ill and was found wandering the streets hungry, homeless and dirty, as his family were ashamed and embarrassed, and abandoned him on the streets. This left him vulnerable to voodoo cultists who could have used him for human sacrifice, or sold his body parts for transplants without consent, or for traditional medicine.
It might seem unbelievable, but there is still a market for human body parts, and homeless people with mental illnesses are particularly vulnerable to this illegal trade.
